February 2020, Dr. Jing Zhang, the founding PI of this lab, retired from the UW
After close to 20 years of clinical service, continuous extramural research funding, hundreds of publications, and countless trainees and collaborators, JZ, as he is affectionately known, retired from the UW.
June 2020, Reduced oligodendrocyte exosome secretion in multiple system atrophy involves SNARE dysfunction
In a recent study, we demonstrate that microvesicles derived from oligodendrocytes – and carrying α-synuclein – are less abundant in the peripheral blood of multiple system atrophy patients and a mouse model compared to controls. Alpha-synuclein interferes with exosome release from oligodendrocytes by disrupting SNARE complex assembly. This study has been just published in the journal, Brain (Volume 143, Issue 6, June 2020, Pages 1780–1797).
